Death of Mr. A. H. Gear

Alexander Hamilton Gear, died at his home at Gear’s Ferry, Sunday evening at 5 o’clock, aged 63 years, 7 months and 13 days.

The deceased was the oldest son of the late Capt. H. A. Gear, and was born at Alton, Illinois, Nov. 9, 1822, and came with his parents as a mere boy, to this city in 1827, and he was one of the oldest residents of the Lead Mines. He was universally respected in this community where he was well known, and leaves to mourn his departure besides a host of friends, a wife, three sons, three daughters and an only brother, Mr. Wm. G. Gear of this city, and his sister, Mrs Capt. G. W. Girden, also of this city. The other children are Aimee, Annette, Ada, Lillie, George and Alexander H. J., all of whom have grown to womanhood and manhood.

The remains were brought to this city for interment, and the funeral was conducted at Grace Episcopal church at one o’clock Wednesday, by Rev. Mr. Draper, of Freeport.- Galena Gazette.
