Life of Useful Resident Comes to an End.
After a lingering illness, Ed Tubbs, one of our city’s honored residents passed away at his home on Clark Street last Saturday about noon. Ed was a man who enjoyed a wide acquaintance and every acquaintance was a friend. Honest and straightforward, a kind jovial disposition, Ed will be greatly missed by all.
Edward Tubbs was born May 1, 1869 on the Tubbs homestead 5 ˝ miles south of Maquoketa, where he grew to manhood. He died in Maquoketa April 16, 1920 at the home of his father, Marvin Tubbs. September 26, 1880 he was married to Fannie Smola, to this union was born five children, one of whom died in infancy; his father, devoted wife, and four children, Mrs. Peter Kier of Maquoketa, Clifton on the home farm, Ina and John at home are left to mourn the loss of a good son, a loving husband and father.
In 1908 he moved from Maquoketa to the home farm, here he has since resided. In January 1919 he began to suffer with a distress which culminated in carcinoma of the stomach, during the months of his illness he was attended by various physicians and was twice operated upon at Rochester and Dubuque, he also submitted to X-ray treatment in Chicago, all that medical science and love could accomplish was done for him, but all proved to be of no avail and on Friday April 16th he passed away quietly into rest. He was a member of Peerless Lodge No. 60, K of P, also a member of Ben DeMeer Temple, D. O. K. K. and a member of Court of Honor.
Funeral services were held from the home of his father, on South Clark Street on Sunday at 2 p.m. and burial in Union Cemetery. Peerless Lodge K. of P. attended in a body and gave their burial rites at the home. The floral offering of friends were beautiful. Rev. D. F. Boomershine officiated
