Prominent Man Passes Away at Mercy Hospital, Chicago, Saturday. Body Brought Here Monday.O. C. Kucheman, one of Maquoketa’s most prominent and influential men passed away Saturday afternoon at Mercy hospital, Chicago, after a many weeks’ illness.
Mr. Kucheman was born in Bellevue, Iowa, and there lived until he was appointed Clerk of Court of Jackson county, which position he so honorably and ably filled. At the expiration of his period in office, he accepted a position in the Jackson State savings Bank of this city and for many years efficiently held this position of trust.
Eight years ago Mr. Kucheman went to Beach, North Dakota, embarking in the banking business in that thriving western town, with Eli Cole of Bellevue. Due to Mr. Kucheman's splendid banking ability the institution prospered and became one of the strongest in that part of the country. He was appointed a member of the Chamber of Commerce of North Dakota and was honored with several other offices of trust during his period of residence there.
Two years ago, the First National Bank of this city recognizing Mr. Kucheman’s ability, secured his services in the bank, which position he held up to the time of his death.
Mr. Kucheman was united in marriage in this city to Miss Isa Jane Kucheman, who with one daughter, Mrs. Marian Hadley of Joplin, Mo., survive. Mr. Kucheman is also survived by his mother, sister, Mrs. Schlaterer and brother Arthur of Bellevue; Albert of Moline and Ben of St. Paul, Minn.
In the death of Mr. Kucheman Jackson county loses one of its most honored and trusted citizens: a man of wisdom and judgment, active in affairs of the community and state and a man who has made good in his profession, as a neighbor and a citizen. He is widely known in Jackson county.
He was a member of the Masonic lodge.
Just three weeks ago Mrs. Kucheman and daughter accompanied the husband and father into Chicago in an endeavor to seek the best of medical advice. Every encouragement was given for his recovery, and every effort was made to restore health, but all to no avail.
The body was brought back to this city yesterday afternoon and funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon.
