Jackson Sentinel, Feb. 3, 1881.

JAMES DECKER, proprietor of the Decker House, this city, died at his home in Watertown, New York, Tuesday, A. M. Feb. 1st, 1881, of old age and general debility, occasioned by business cares. He was 73 years of age and was born in a little town called Hague, near the borders of Lake George. He first visited Maquoketa in company with E. R. Woley in 1854, and purchased extensive tracts of improved and unimproved lands, aside from his Maquoketa investments. Mr. Decker was quite a benefactor of Maquoketa's in his improvements, and is well known throughout this section as a man of wealth.

Jackson Sentinel, Feb. 10, 1881.

Mr. John Decker informs us that we were in error last week, and instead of his brother, James, being born at Hague, New York, it should have been Swanton, Vermont, a town on the eastern shore of Lake Champlain.
