Alois N. Hilbert, Springbrook Native Dies in Deadwood

Springbrook, Aug. 22 – Alois N. Hilbert, 86, a native of Springbrook, died Aug. 12 at his home in Deadwood, So. Dak. Funeral services were held Aug. 13 in Deadwood.

Mr. Hilbert was born and reared on a farm west of Springbrook, he was the son of Nick and Mary Freymann Hilbert. His wife, Katherine Neu, whom he married at Springbrook died in 1923. For many years Mr. Hilbert was with the theater in connection with the pageantry of the “Days of ‘76” staged in the Black Hills of South Dakota. He was also a musician.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Floyd (Margie) Peyton of Deadwood, So. Dak., two sons, Vincent of Butte, Mont., and Mallie of Phoenix, Ariz; a sister, Mrs. John T. Rolling of Bellevue; two brothers, Peter and Charles Hilbert, both of Bellevue; and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, two sisters and two brothers preceded him in death.
