HODGE – February 4th, 1882, in her eighteenth year, Miss Mary Hodge. She was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, June 19, 1864. After a lingering and painful illness she peacefully departed to that healthful clime where sickness and parting and death are unknown.

Miss Mamie was the only daughter of Dr. A. S. and Maria Hodge, of this city, who had but two children. She was known in her girlhood as an exceptionally bright and entertaining little Miss, who was beloved and admired by many. She had the misfortune to have her leg broken at one time, otherwise she was healthy and robust, until the illness with which she died fastened upon her. Her parents did all in their power to check the painful affliction, but all medical aid seemed of no avail in this case. Her father made a pilgrimage to New York some time ago with his daughter, Mamie, hoping to get relief, but this failed, too. The parents and brother of Mamie find it very hard to part with the flower of the home circle at this early period of the deceased’s life. May they console themselves with the reflection that God’s will is for the best.

The funeral services occurred at the Baptist church Tuesday afternoon, and the attendance was large, especially of young people, who were Mamie’s friends and acquaintances.
