Marie Elsner

Dr. Marie M. Elsner, 97, of Maquoketa, died Monday, Aug. 11, 1997 at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Haylock O’Hara & Lahey Funeral Home in Maquoketa, with Rev. Dennis Cain officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa.

Visitation was held from 4 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12 at the funeral home.

Miss Elsner was born June 23, 1900 in rural Jackson County to August and Frances Deppe Elsner.

She was a 1921 graduate of Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, and operated a chiropractic office in Maquoketa, and also served several other area communities, for many years, retiring in 1961.

For several years, she also delivered the Shopper to Maquoketa homes.
She loved her cat and her daily visits to the Jackson County Senior Center.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews, including Irene Rose of Maquoketa, who had cared for her.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

A memorial fund has been established.
