Obituary for Mrs. William Becker

Mary E. Kelly, daughter of Timothy and Mary Brown Kelly, was born in Jackson county, Iowa, June 14, 1864, and has lived her whole life in Maquoketa and vicinity.

She was united in marriage to Geo. W. Ricker on Oct. 6, 1892, and became the happy mother of six daughters, one of whom died in infancy; Mrs. Wilma Potter, of Maquoketa; Mrs. Hazel Hale, of Baldwin; Mrs. Gail Taylor, of Clinton; Mrs. Grace Brown, of Clinton; and Helen, who died at the age of 15 years.

She was united in marriage to William Becker Nov. 14, 1918, with whom she lived happily until he passed away on July 18, 1926.

She was a faithful wife and mother and her hands were always busy and ready to serve her family and relatives. Her work is done and she has entered into her eternal home and rest.

She was taken seriously ill with the intestinal flu three weeks ago and all that medical skill or loving hands could do was of no avail and she passed peacefully away on Thursday evening, at 8 o’clock, aged 64 years, 3 months and 6 days.

Besides the sorrowing daughters, 11 grandchildren, Eleanor, Stanley, Eloise and Merlin Hale, Walter, Leonard, Hazel, Mary and Raymond Potter, Walter Brown, and Melvin Taylor; also 5 sisters, Maria Corry, of Crookston, Minn.; Rose Hanshumaker, Nashville, Tenn.; Margueretta Benson, Davenport, Iowa; also Kate Rash, deceased; and four brothers, Thomas, of Clinton; William and John, of Maquoketa; and Timothy, of Davenport; and a large circle of other relatives and friends survive to mourn her departure.

Funeral services were held from the home south of fairgrounds on Monday, Sept. 24, at 2 p.m. Sermon by Rev. D. F. Boomershine. Mrs. Nina Wilson and Mrs. Emma Staack sang consoling gospel songs. Floral tributes of family and friends were beautiful. Burial was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
