Donald K. Reyner, age 80, of Maquoketa, Iowa, died on Wednesday evening, June 25, 2008, at the Jackson County Regional Health Center in Maquoketa, Iowa.

A public graveside service celebrating Don’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, June 30, 2008, from the Canton, Iowa Cemetery. Full military rites will be accorded. Chaplain/Celebrant Rev. Ruth Ann Scott of Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa will officiate. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 P.M. on Sunday, June 29, 2008, from the Carson & Son Funeral And Cremation Services in Maquoketa, Iowa, where a 4 P.M. Knights of Pythias Service will be held.

Donald K. Reyner was born on July 28, 1927 in Dubuque, Iowa, to Harlan W. Reyner and Jennie I. (Haynor) Reyner. He was a 1945 graduate of Maquoketa Community High School and a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Donald worked for 5 years at the Proving Grounds in Savanna, Illinois. He then worked for the U.S. Post Office for 33 years. He had worked for the U.S. Government for a total of 38 years.

Donald was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Maquoketa. He was a lifetime member of the Lost Nation American Legion Post #381 Menzo-Widle. He also was a member of the Maquoketa Masonic Helion Lodge #36 AF & AM, Andrew AMVETS Post #62, Maquoketa VFW Post #3633 O’Connor-Regenwether, Knights of Pythias Lodge in Maquoketa, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Maquoketa.

Donald enjoyed bowling, golfing, cribbage, watching high school wrestling, and the Chicago Cubs.

Donald is survived by: sisters- Rosemary Powers of Davenport, IA, Norma Bowe of St. Cloud, MN, & Faith (Wilbur) Grover of Maquoketa, IA; & several nieces & nephews, and great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother- Harlan James, & a sister- Evelyn.

A Donald K. Reyner Memorial Fund has been established.
