Obituary

Florence Edith Nims was born June 12, 1896, and grew up in our community. She finished the rural school and completed the normal course in the M. H. S. in 1913. Not satisfied with her education, she took up a home study course from a college in Indiana. “The Athenaeum,” which she finished in due time and received her diploma.

She has been a successful teacher in the Jackson county schools, and also spent two years in the “Time Division” of the Rock Island Arsenal. During two summer vacations she traveled extensively through eastern states.

Florence had been a patient sufferer for several months, and confined to her home for three weeks previous to an operation, which was inevitable, but unsuccessful. She passed away on March 26, at St. Luke’s hospital, Davenport, Iowa. The body was brought to Maquoketa, accompanied by her father, and other friends. The funeral was held at the M. E. church March 29, and the remains temporarily laid to rest in the mausoleum. As soon as road conditions are favorable, the body will receive burial at the Bridgeport cemetery.

Left to mourn her loss are the broken-hearted parents, Wm. O. and Nellie A. Nims, also eight brothers Horace, Claude, Harry, George, Herbert, Carson, Paul and Harold, and two sisters, Bertha and Mildred, all of whom are at home and will miss her loving care and helpfulness.
