April 6, 1926Aged Jackson County Veteran Passes Away
Wellington Current, a well known and highly respected resident of Jackson county, passed away this morning at his home south of town at the age of 86 years. A couple of weeks ago he fell and fractured his hip, and gradually grew worse until death relieved his intense suffering.
Wellington Current was born in Ontario, Canada, August 4, 1839, and came to Iowa with his parents when a very small child and settled in Jackson county. In 1862 he enlisted for service in Co. I, 24th Ia. Volunteer Infantry, with which he continued until the close of the war. He was a brave and loyal soldier and fought valiantly to uphold the supremacy of the Union.
In 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Amy Current, and they were the happy parents of two sons, George who preceded him in death, and Fortis, who with the aged wife mourn the loss of a kind husband and father.
Mr. Current was a member of A. W. Drips Post No. 74, G. A. R., and always enjoyed his relations with his old comrades.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 o’clock from Buchner chapel. Burial will be made in Buckhorn cemetery.
