Remains of Noble Woman Laid to Rest

The funeral of the late Mrs. Fred Fischer was held from the home of her son, Harry Fischer, on North Main street at two o’clock Tuesday afternoon, Rev. W. M. Purce of St Mark’s Episcopal church officiating.

Mrs. Carrie Sears-Fischer was born in Maquoketa November 20, 1859, and until a few years ago had made her home here practically all her life. On November 27, 1880, she was united in marriage to Fred Fischer to which union four children were born: Harry of this city, Mrs. Lena Price of Blue Island, Ill, Mrs. Bernice Orebaugh of Petersburg, Va., and Oliver of Chicago, Ill., all of whom survive. Mr. Fischer passed away several years ago. She also leaves to mourn their loss five grandchildren and two sisters, the latter being Mrs. Mattie Hockley of West Winfield, N. Y., and Mrs. Effie Hoffman of Savanna, Ill.

Mrs. Fischer was one of those grand women whose love for home, family and friends was exemplary. Since the death of her husband she had devoted her entire time in the companionship of her children and to them her passing comes as a bitter sorrow. But her life was well spent. Kindness characterized her life’s work and an open hand and heart went out to all who needed sympathy or encouragement. An honored citizen, a loyal friend has gone from us, but her memory will be a pleasure and the esteem in which she was held will live on and on.

Some years ago she went to make her home with her daughter, Mrs. Lena Price at Blue Island, Ill., and was there that she passed away Dec. 17, 1921. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery by the side of her departed husband.
