Quietly Passed Away.

Carl Lyle Glaser, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jake Glaser, was born in Maquoketa, Iowa, on Dec. 1, 1881, and died of consumption at Colorado Springs, Col., at midnight on Nov. 30, 1904, lacking only a few hours of rounding out his 28 years of earth-life.

We can remember Carl from the time he was a baby. Though modest and unassuming he could hardly be considered diffident. As we remember the child and the youth he was one of the ruggedest, insensible almost to exposure and pain. But a change came and owing to overwork perhaps, and unsanitary surroundings, while pursuing his chosen occupation of printer at Cumberland, Wis., he contracted a severe cold to which at first no attention was paid. But not yielding to natures power of restoring as had always before been the case, he was obliged to give up his position and come home in the hope of relief, but no relief came. The disease having taken so firm a hold, the system was not able to throw it off, but gradually yielding until the spirit returned to him who gave it.

In hope of regaining the waning strength he went to Colorado last spring and seemed to improve for awhile, but a little mishap tilted his destiny to the wrong side, and gradually failing, his mother went to his assistance about three months ago. A nice little cottage was rented and every care bestowed for his relief and comfort, but the end came, a relief to Carl, a pain to all the rest. Besides his mother, his brothers, Ernest and Dorchester, were with him at the hour of death.

The remains arrived home on Friday night, the funeral occurring on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the house and was largely attended. The printers attending in a body and Co. M, of which he was a faithful and respected member, furnishing an escort and performing the military rites of a departed comrade at the grave.

The floral offerings were the finest that could be procured and bountiful.

Services were conducted by Rev. Black, with interment in Mt. Hope.
