March 21, 1958H. C. Straub, Retired Farmer, Dies Wednesday
Herman C. Straub, 84, a retired Fairfield township farmer and a lifelong Jackson county resident, died Wednesday in the Jackson County Public hospital at Maquoketa.
Funeral will be held today (Friday) at 2 p.m. in the Haylock O’Hara funeral home. The Rev. M. H. Nothdurft, pastor of the local Methodist church, will officiate. Masonic services will also be conducted and burial will be made in Mt. Hope cemetery.
Mr. Straub was born July 28, 1873, in Fairfield township, son of the late John and Caroline Sehrader Straub. On July 3, 1900, he was married in Lyons Ia., to Freida Hauser, who survives him. He was a longtime member of the Masonic order, the Odd Fellows and the Knights of Pythias.
He is survived by his widow; one son, Charles Straub of Maquoketa; four daughters, Mrs. George (Edna) Hoffman of Preston, Mrs. Leon (Bertha) Orr of Andrew, Mrs. M. C. (Helen) Beeck of Miles and Mrs. Elbert (Irene) Beeck of Spragueville; and 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
His parents, two brothers, four half brothers and three half sisters preceded him in death.
