John Streets was born in Delaware County, Ohio, Sept. 3, 1841, and died at his home near Monmouth, Iowa, May 10th, 1907, aged 63 years, 7 months and 27 days.

When seven years of age he came with his parents to Iowa, where he remained until the fall of 1869 when he returned to Ohio. In 1861 he enlisted in Co. H. 76 Ohio Vol., and served until the expiration of his term of enlistment. He reenlisted, however, in February 1864 and served to the end of the war.

On February 16, 1864 he was united in marriage to Adelia Greve. To this union were born fifteen children, ten of whom survive, four having died in infancy and one boy after reaching manhood.

Mr. Streets came to Iowa a second time August 16th, 1863 and settled in Jackson county removing to Jones Co in 1869 where he resided until his death.

He leaves to mourn his loss, a wife, ten children, nine grand children, besides many other relatives and friends.

During his army service he was with Gen. John Logan, in the 15th Army Corps in the battle of Shiloh, Pittsburg Landing, Arkansas Post, the siege of Vicksburg, Lookout Mountain, Atlanta and he marched with Sherman to the sea.
