-Almond W. Shattuck, aged 36 years, was killed on the morning of the 8th of April, at Newton, Kansas. His remains were brought here and buried on Saturday last. The following account of the circumstances attending his death we copy from a private letter to James A. Shattuck, from E. H. Smith:

“His ‘lead team’ broke loose from the stage and pulled off between the ‘wheel’ horses, his head striking the tongue, from whence he fell to the ground, and two wheels passed over him, injuring his spine and paralyzing and benumbing his limbs. He lived twenty-four hours in great suffering, but was perfectly conscious to within half a minute of his death.”

The deceased lived in this city at one time, but for several years past has been residing in Kansas, in the vicinity where he met the fatal accident which terminated his life. Four brothers residing here with their families, and many friends followed the remains to the grave and paid the last tribute of respect and affection to the departed one.
