CURRENT – At her home in the south west part of this city, July 28, 1897, the soul of Mrs. Nelson Current passed to the great beyond.

Harriet M. Curry was born Jan. 15, 1857, at South Grove settlement, south west of Maquoketa, and was married at Monmouth to Nelson Current, April 27, 1875. They have made this city their home ever since, except two years spent at West Bend, this state. Two sons and one daughter have graced their wedded life, all of whom are living. During the pastorate of Rev. F. M. Archer in the Baptist church she experienced religion and united with that church, since which time she has been a consistent and devoted attendant, until she was compelled by illness to give up the pleasure. Last September she accidentally scratched her finger, which caused blood poisoning. This in turn led to a severe attack of typhoid fever, and before she had entirely recovered from this she contracted a severe cold, which led to further complications that ended in her death. She had during her life been a good wife, kind mother and an earnest Christian. Besides her children and husband, she leaves to mourn her death three brothers, a sister and a large circle of friends.

The funeral was held at her late home Friday afternoon, July 30, Rev. Henry Clark, her pastor, preaching the funeral sermon, and the remains laid to rest in the Buckhorn cemetery.

WOOD: - At her home west of town at midnight, Thursday, July 29, 1897, Mrs. Lewis M. Wood, aged 81 yrs., 7 mos.

Sophia Bennett was born near Fort Ticonderoga, Essex county, N. Y., in 1815 and was married to Mr. Wood, Dec. 25th, 1837. They moved west and settled in this county May 9, 1855. The deceased had been badly afflicted with rheumatism for a number of years and was always greatly delighted when any of her old friends or neighbors called to visit her. The funeral was held Sunday at the late home on the lawn and was conducted by Rev. J. M. Dick of Iron Hill and the remains were laid to rest in Mt. Hope cemetery.
