OBITUARY

RICHARD LAKE was born in England on March 13, 1852. When a young man of 20 years of age he left England and came to the United States, going to Chicago where he lived for a short time before coming to Maquoketa.

In the year 1875 he was united in marriage to Josephine Barrett of Andrew, Iowa, where they lived for a brief time before coming to Maquoketa to make their home, where they have continued to reside. To this union there were born five children, two having passed away in infancy: Claude of Des Moines, Maude who passed away at the age of sixteen, and Hazel at the age of 25. For a number of years he had been employed with the Corn Syrup Refining company of Clinton, and for the past 16 years he held the responsible position of foreman mason, continuing in that capacity until Nov. 1, 1925,when illness compelled him to resign.
