October 28, 1904DIED:- Jesse Palmer was born in Ohio, April 20, 1818, in early manhood he moved to Indiana, where he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah Davis, Aug. 26, 1840; in 1865 he moved his family to Iowa. Six children were born to him, four of whom, William D., Mrs. Geo. Shattuck, Mrs. Wm. Clark and Walter, survive to mourn the loss, of a kind and loving father. He settled on a farm near Fulton , Jackson county, where he resided until the death of his wife, Sept. 15, 1875, since which time he resided a number of years in Linn county near Cedar Rapids. In 1900 he returned to Jackson county and has since made his home with his son, William D., east of town, where he died of heart trouble Oct. 19, 1904; having attained the ripe old age of 86 years 5 months and 28 days. He was a devout Christian, having been a member of the M. E. church since 1855. His firm convictions, fine sense of honor, and genial manners gave him an undying influence for the right. Mr. Palmer was a man whose many excellent qualities won for him the love, respect and admiration of all those whom he met. Funeral services were held at the Esgate school house Friday at 2 p.m., burial in the Esgate cemetery, Rev. J. F. Black officiating.
