Services Monday; Life-Long Resident

One of Maquoketa’s oldest citizens, William F. Reeve, 93, died Friday morning in the Jackson County Public hospital following a lingering illness. Last rites were held at two o’clock Monday afternoon in the Haylock O’Hara funeral home here. The Rev. M. H. Nothdurft, pastor of the Methodist church officiated. Interment was made in Mt. Hope cemetery.

Mr. Reeve, for 59 years a tinsmith here, was born in Maquoketa on March 2, 1860, a son of William and Amanda Reeve. A life-long resident of Maquoketa, he married Rhoda Breeden in Maquoketa in 1879. She died in 1899. His second wife, Dora S. Norton, whom he married in 1901, also preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist church and an organizer of the Maquoketa Fire Kinds, fore-runner of today’s local volunteer fire department.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. A. P. Nims and Mrs. C. W. Neargaard, both of Maquoketa; two sons, W. O. Reeve of Milwaukee, Wisc., and Leo C. Reeve of Lombard, Ill., two step-sons, Ralph Norton of Graceville, Minn., and Clarence Norton of Mechanicsville; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. His parents, two wives and five daughters preceded him in death.
