Luke C. Irwin was born in Mercer County, Pa., August 4, 1830 and died at Andrew, Ia., December 23, 1906 at the age of 76 years. He came to Iowa and located in Perry Twp. In 1851 and was one of the early pioneers of this county there being at that time but 3 houses between Andrew and Bellevue. On February 21, 1855 he was united in marriage to Hanna Crawford of this place and to this union 7 sons and 2 daughters all of whom except one son, the oldest, who died at the age of six years still survive. Two brothers are also left to mourn his death. Mrs. Irwin died September 10, 1884, and on April 5, 1888 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Margaret S. Allen of Laurence County Pa, who still survives. Mr. Irwin, in early life, made a public profession of his faith in Christ in connection with the Presbyterian church of Andrew and for more than 40 years he served as a ruling elder in this church. He has been a great sufferer for many years with neuralgia of the head from which cause he lost his eyesight several years ago and death came as a relief to his sufferings. Funeral services were held Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Presbyterian church conducted by Rev. Huston, interment in Andrew cemetery
