Former Preston Lady Meets Tragic Death

The sad news reached Preston a few days ago that Mrs. Amelia Swaney, who was spending the winter at Long Beach, Calif., had died at a hospital at Long Beach, Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 24, from severe burns received when her clothing caught fire the previous Wednesday.

Mrs. Swaney is a former resident of Preston, having moved from here about eight years ago, following the death of her husband, James H. She is about 75 years of age. There are very few members of the once large family to which she belonged. We are told there is one brother, Leslie, living in western Iowa, who left at once for California and a sister who is very ill in a hospital in Wisconsin.

It is understood that the body will be buried in Preston cemetery but definite arrangements have not been learned as yet.
