Obituary Harry Butt

Harry Lee Butt, eldest son of Squire and Hattie Butt was born Oct. 23, 1900 in Brandon township, Jackson county, Iowa, and died at the home of his mother April 7, 1929. Thus ending his noble fight at the age of 28 years, 5 months and 15 days. On June 23, 1926, he was united in marriage to Minnie Becker by Rev. Boomershine and to this union was born one little girl, Gloria Lee. Shortly after this marriage they moved to Evanston, Ill., where they lived a year and a half, returning to Monmouth when Mr. Butt’s health began to fail. Since then he has been in this vicinity, coming to his mother’s home six weeks previous to his death.

Those left to mourn his death are his wife and daughter, his mother, and four brothers, George of Rockford, Ill., Henry, Bennie and Onie at home. His father died June 10, 1924, and two brothers, Eddie and Ora died Jan. 30, 1923, and Dec. 19, 1922, respectively. This leaves but four of a family of seven boys.

He was a member of the Modern Woodmen fraternal order and this brotherhood had charge of the committal at the grave. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, April 9, prayer at the home of his mother 4 miles northeast of Monmouth at 1:30 p.m. and sermon by Rev. D. F. Boomershine at Monmouth M. E. church at 2 p.m., where a large circle of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last earthly tribute to the departed and express their sympathy to the living. The floral tributes of family and friends were beautiful and expressive of the esteem in which he was held. Burial was made in the family lot at Monmouth cemetery.
