Jackson Sentinel, June 8, 1866:

On Monday night, the 24th alt., at his residence in Dubuque, Mr. Paul Schmid, aged 48 years.

Mr. Schmid was an old citizen of this county, having emigrated from the old country in 1848, and settled near Andrew, where he engaged in farming, but soon disposed of his farm and engaged in various pursuits, finally moved to Maquoketa and opened a boarding house and hotel. Becoming dissatisfied, he removed from Maquoketa to Dubuque, where he engaged in the grocery and boarding house business. Mr. Schmid was “generous to a fault,” had many warm friends, and was highly respected by all. He leaves a wife and five children to mourn his loss. Peace to his manes.
