DIED

HUNTER. Eliza Abbey was born at Naples, Ontario county, New York, in the year 1828. In the spring of 1850 she came west to make her home in Andrew, Jackson county, Iowa. In 1853, Eliza Abbey was united in marriage to S. C. Wasson. This union was destined to be but brief. In 1861, Mr. Wasson enlisted in the army. The wife went to the army with her husband, Mr. Wasson died in the service. In 1871 she was united in marriage to Joseph Hunter. Twelve years later, in 1883, Joseph Hunter died. About twenty-two years ago, Mrs. Hunter moved from her farm near Cottonville to Maquoketa. For several years, three sisters – Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Warriner, Mrs. Hunter, and one brother, Griffin C. Abbey kept a happy home under one roof. Mrs. Williams was the first to pass out from the circle; she died in 1889. The brother, Griffin C. Abbey, died in 1898. Mrs. Warriner died in 1905.

Death came to Mrs. Hunter early Wednesday evening, Jan. 26, 1910. The deceased was once numbered among a family of ten children. But one brother survives her – Thomas Abbey of Prairieburg, Iowa. Mrs. Hunter’s last years were blessed by the companionship and faithful ministry of her niece, Miss Ava May Johnson of Buffalo, N.Y.
