James Snoeberger Dies At Buckhorn Home Sunday After Short Illness

Buckhorn (Special) – This community is mourning the loss of their friend and neighbor, James Alfred Snoeberger, who died at his home here Sunday morning, Jan. 10 at 8:30 o’clock. He had not been feeling well, but had stayed faithfully to his post of duty at the Buckhorn creamery until New Years morning when he was seized with chills and came home, where all that loving hands and the skill of doctors and nurses could do to relieve him was done, be to no avail, for pneumonia and attendant ills combined to end a life whose memory will long be cherished.

No one ever heard “Jim,” as he was known, say an unpleasant word. His life was full of kind and loving deeds, of cheery words to all he met and a spirit of helpfulness. His was the first donation to the present Buckhorn church when it was built, and in every way possible he manifested his desire to help others.

James Alfred Snoeberger was born in Clinton county, near Lost Nation, November 22, 1867, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Snoeberger, who came from Indiana. He grew up in the Dunkary faith. He attended school at the Mill Rock district in which building, now used for a community hall, 100 friends and relatives gathered on his 64th birthday last November for a surprise on him.

He loved his home and family, and did all he could for them. Reading was his favorite avocation.

He was married February 7, 1891, to Etta Caroline Wood at Baldwin and they made their home in the Baldwin community with the exception of four years when they lived in Osceola county. One son and four daughters were born to them.

Surviving are his widow, one son Samuel W. of Lost Nation, a daughter, Elizabeth M., wife of Melvin Miller of Nashville, and granddaughter Barbara Snoeberger; also by his brother Frank of Mill Rock, and two sisters Mrs. Lewis Scott of Monmouth and Mrs. E. E. Davies of Billings, Montana.

The funeral service will be held at the home at 1 o’clock Wednesday, Jan. 13 and at the Buckhorn church at 1:30. Interment will be made in the Pence cemetery near Baldwin, by the side of his two daughters. Pallbearers will be members of the Buckhorn creamery board of directors.
