GILMORE---On Sunday afternoon, August 4th, Robert J. Gilmore was buried at Riverside cemetery at Canton. Mr. Gilmore was born in Butler, Pennsylvania, in 1845, and came in early childhood to Ozark, where he grew to manhood in 1885 in Maquoketa. He was married to Miss Belle Gard, and to this union four children were born, namely: John, who died 26 years ago; William aged 21; Sadie, 19 and Winnifred 14. Mr. Gilmore has also a brother Samuel living near Canton and sister, Mrs. Hiram Kiester of Emeline, and a brother and sister living in the west. Mr. Gilmore made his home with us in Canton from 1886 to the year 1900, where he was a useful, esteemed citizen in his latter days he had resided in the village of Wyoming. Circumstances of his death were peculiar and trying. He had been troubled with a fungoid growth on his face, which had not been considered serious. All very recently, however, on the advice of his local physician, about a week ago, after arrangements had been fully made, he undertook a trip to Des Moines, for the purpose of having the growth removed. Mr. Gilmore died on the operating table at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, as stated, at the Presbyterian church, at Canton, at which his Wyoming pastor, Rev. Mr. Wilcox, officiated.
