Mrs. Chas. Romer Services Monday; Dies On Christmas.
Funeral services for Mrs. Charles Romer, 77, who died Friday in the Jackson County Public Hospital here, were held Monday at two o'clock in the Haylock-O'Hara funeral home. The Rev. Bruce S. Dean, pastor of the First Congregational Church, officiated. Burial was made in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
As Emma C., she was born April 7, 1876, in Germany, a daughter of the late John and Minnie Holstein. She came to the United States at the age of eleven, settling first in the Hurstville community. On Dec. 29, 1897, she was married in Andrew to Charles P. Romer, who survives. The couple lived in Beldon, Nebr., for eleven years following their marriage. They have resided the past 45 years in the Maquoketa vicinity.
In addition to her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Orpah Pence of Maquoketa, Mrs. Esthel Ripple of Andrew and Mrs. Arline Poole of Chicago; three sons, L.W. Romer of Maquoketa, Harry Romer of Owatonna, Minn., and Maynard Romer of Clinton; four sisters, Mrs. Augusta Ashmore, Haysprings, Nebr., Mrs. Mary Goldman of DeWitt, and Mrs. Anna Bowman and Mrs. Minnie Reynolds of Maquoketa; a brother, William Holstein of Calamus; four grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. A daughter and a sister preceded her in death.
