MAQUOKETA EXCELSIOR RECORD DECEMBER 1911

HAYES-Lewis M., son of Thompson and Nancy Hayes
was born in Indiana Dec. 5, 1858, and died in
Maquoketa, Iowa, Dec. 13, 1911.

He was one of nine children. When he was a child
he came with his parents to Iowa and lived near Fulton until his marriage.

He moved to Maquoketa in 1879.
He worked for C.M. Sanborn for many years until his late illness compelled him to retire.

For two years he was a great sufferer.
All was done that could be done by loving hands,
kind friends and physicians but of no avail.
He was resigned and patiently waited for the end which came Wednesday morning.

He leaves to mourn their loss a devoted wife,
who has been loving and faithful to the end;

one daughter Cora, of Clinton;

an aged father;

three brothers,
Adam H., Sylvester and Oce of this city;

two sisters,
Mrs. George Cooper of this city and
Mrs. J.C. Throop of Los Angeles, CA

and many friends.

The funeral services were held at the
Free Methodist church, Friday, December 15th,
at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H.A. Dalrymple

Interment was made at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
