SABULA — Roger W. Struve, 72, of Sabula, died Wednesday at his home.

Inurnment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Clinton, with military rites accorded by Sabula Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5234.

He was born Dec. 7, 1934, to Harvey and Bernice Rogers Struve in Hauntown. In 1957, he married Carol Tallman.

He attended Elk River Country School 8, near Almont.

He served as a paratrooper in the United States Army Airbourne Division during the Korean War.

He worked as a pipefitter/welder with Plumbers & Pipefitters Union Local 66, Dubuque. He also farmed and owned and operated a sawmill near Sabula until retirement.

He was a member of Sabula Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5234, American Rifleman Association and Duck’s Unlimited.

Survivors include two sons, Rod Struve of Sabula and Russell Struve of Savanna, Ill.; one daughter, Reneé (Allen) Fitzwater of Clinton; one brother, Larry (Janice) Struve of Sabula; one sister, Sue (Ron) Johnston of Savanna; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
