Willard Tubbs found dead.
Willard Tubbs, brother of George and Marvin Tubbs, of this city (Maquoketa), was found dead in bed Tuesday morning at the country home of Ed Henneke, near Elwood, where he has been assisting in farm work. Mr. Tubbs retired in good health Monday night. The next morning he failed to appear when the Henneke family were making ready to do chores and they concluded he was oversleeping and went about their work. Upon returning to the house and preparing for breakfast, they called Mr. Tubbs. After repeatedly calling and receiving no answer, Mr. Henneke went to the room and found him in a lifeless condition. Mr. Tubbs was born in Walworth county, Wis., February, 1851, being a little more than 63 years of age. He was unmarried. The body was taken to the home of a nephew, Ed Tubbs, from which place a funeral service was held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. D.F. Boomershine officiating. Interment was made in the Union cemetery. (The Excelsior-Record, March 19, 1914.)
