MAQUOKETA — Raymond P. “Ray” Sellnau, 89, of Maquoketa, died Saturday at Jackson County Regional Health Center, Maquoketa.

Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.

He was born Feb. 14, 1917, in Clinton County to William and Christine Nielsen Sellnau. He married Esther L. Smith on March 2, 1941, in DeWitt. She died in 2005.

He attended the Elvira school.

He and his wife farmed in Welton and Delmar areas for many years before retiring to Maquoketa in 1981. Upon retirement, he did volunteer work on the Hurstville Lime Kilns.

Survivors include his children, Allen (Nancy) Sellnau of Martelle, Ron (Sue) Sellnau of Burlington, Wis., and Marilyn (Jim) Foster and Steve (Cindy) Sellnau, both of Maquoketa; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Linda Thomsen of Maquoketa.

Memorials may be made to the Jackson County Health Foundation to benefit the Skilled/Long-Term Care Unit at the Jackson County Regional Health Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and two sisters.
