Jackson County Bar Association

Excelsior: The Jackson County Bar Association completed its organization Tuesday night. The following officers were elected for the first term: President D. A. Fletcher; secretary, D. T. Bauman; treasurer, Levi Keck; executive committee: H. R. Farrell, John Hilsinger and W. C. Gregory. It is hoped that every member of the bar in the county will become a member of the association. We do not know the objects of the association, but we can readily see why such an organization in this county and live up to its wisely made rules in spirit and in letter. Too much of the legal business of the county is done by outside attorneys: in fact nearly all the big fees go to attorneys from outside the county. Our attorneys have no one but themselves to blame for this untoward state of affairs. Petty jealousies and blindness to their own best interests have brought it about. The evil never ought to have existed, but it has existed for years, exists now and will continue to exist until members of the bar arise in their might and make a determined effort to stamp it out and they will need the co-operation and help of the people who are so unfortunate as to be obliged to go to law. Let all the people help; let the democrats who employ lawyers and republicans too, buy the advice and council they may need at home; this is good republican doctrine; and they will fare just as well in every respect in the long run and much better in many respects from the start.

D. A. Fletcher
