Maquoketa Excelsior, August 23, 1918

ZWINGLE, Iowa

The first of our boys from this vicinity to be called by death overseas is Pvt. Fred Repphun, who made his home with his parents on the home farm near St. Theresa's. Pvt. Repphun left with the first contingent of our boys September 1, 1917. No definite cause of death has been received yet.

Fred was a quiet boy and always attended strictly to his affairs. He was of great assistance to his bereaved parents who have the sincere sympathy of their friends.
