Mysterious Attempt To Murder.

The story has come into the city that on Monday night last, John McCarty, of Garryowen was attacked at 9 o’clock as he was returning home from a visit from a neighbor. He had been to the residence of Michael Grace, and was about a mile from the church, returning on horseback, when someone knock him over and cut him in the head and side.

He lay where he was attacked, until Mr. Matt Sewell happen to pass that way about 1 o’clock next morning. Mr. McCarty was found helpless and unconscious and was in this condition taken home, where he has since been under the care of a doctor, but remains in a precarious condition.

No attempt was made in the way of robbery, and the whole affair is enveloped in mystery.

John Turner, of Garryowen, erroneously reported by the city papers as John McCarty, who was so brutally assaulted by some unknown person or persons as narrated in the Times a short time since died by reason of his injured Monday morning. Thus far no clue has been ascertained leading to the detection of the cowardly perpetrators. Detectives should be put to work and the matter not allowed to rest until justice grasps the culprit.
