BELLVIEW, Sept. 12, 1837
Messrs. Editors of the Iowa News:

About the twentieth of June last, there was a petition forwarded to the Road Commissioners of the county of DuBuque from the citizens of Belleview and the Forks of the Great Maquoketa, and also one from the people of Belleview and Carrellport, for a road from Belleview to Carrellport.
Permit a stranger to enquire of them through the medium of your paper, the cause of the delay in fulfilling the just request of a respectable portion of the citizens of the county that are entitled to their service, nay, a right to demand it; and why is it that they who profess to be the officers of the county, and not a particular part of it, hold the petition in their hands and look on with seeming indifferance, and see a portion of the citizens of the county laboring under unsufferable inconvenience of not having roads established and worked which has become imperitively necessary in each of the above cases as petiitioned. A prompt attention to the requisition of the petitions as set forth above will be necessary for them to retrieve their character with the people of this vicinity.

A CITIZEN OF BELLEVIEW
