Two Iowa Men Buy Old Galena Gazette

GALENA-
Illinois' second oldest newspaper, The Galena Gazette, has been sold to Keith Byars and Robert T. Melvold, both of Maquoketa, Iowa.

Byars will take over as publisher and Mrs. Florence D. Shipley will continue as Editor. Melvold, publisher of the Maquoketa newspaper and Byars bought the Gazette from Clint Youle of Galena.

The Galena Gazette, founded in 1834, reverted to weekly status several years ago after being a daily publication. The oldest paper in Illinois is the Illinois State Journal at Springfield.
