AN IOWA OPPOSSUM

The first oppossum captured in Jackson County and perhaps west of the Mississippi River north of the Missouri River was on exhibition in Maquoketa on Monday. The animal was caught about two weeks ago along the Maquoketa River below Canton by a party of coon hunters. It was quite a curiosity to most of the people, but but none of them expressed a desire for a nicely roasted bit of the creature's prehensile tail.
