Nearly Drowned at Sabula

Misses Hattie Petersen and Nettie Mann broke through the ice while skating near the mill, Monday afternoon, receiving a bad scare and narrowly escaping drowning as the water is very deep at that point. They were skating over a spot where the ice sawyers had been cutting, but which had frozen over again. Young people had been skating there for several days past. The ice suddenly gave way under them and they were precipitated in the cold water. Miss Petersen succeeded in getting out without getting much wet, but Miss Mann sunk nearly to her shoulders and it was only by the assistance of her companion that she was extricated from her perilous position.
