The Maquoketa Excelsior and Record have been purchased by S. D. Heide and will be consolidated as the Excelsior-Record. Mr. Gruwell, who owned the Excelsior, will locate elsewhere. He has been an interesting member of the fraternity in this section of the state and the Pioneer regrets his retirement, but extends a hearty welcome to the new management. The consolidation removes a long and bitter newspaper fight in Jackson County. Floyd Sunderlin, late owner of the Record, goes back to his love at Delmar and may continue to shoot wads of vituperation at his adversaries from over the border.—Cascade Pioneers
