TRANSFER MAQUOKETA CCC CAMP TODAY
Company 772 Establishes Temporary Camp at Cascade
The Maquoketa CCC camp was moved today to temporary barracks at Cascade where work will be carried on during the summer months. It is expected that the camp members will return here in the early fall to complete soil erosion projects which were started some time ago.The community has been assured by Governor Herring that the camp will be retuned in the fall to complete local projects during the fall and winter months.
The original order from CCC authorities to move the Maquoketa camp from this city permanently, brought forth bitter protest and following conference of local committees at Des Moines, Ames and Washington, the ruling was amended. The men will be housed in tents at the Cascade camp, according to Lt. E. I. Woodbury, commanding officer.
