IS HE BRIBED?

Copper Creek, Iowa, September 20, 1879

J. W. Miles was a member of the last General Assembly of Iowa from Jackson County. He was on the Railroad Committee and was presented with free passes over all of the through railroad lines, which he not only uses himself, but lets others travel on them. Now does anyone believe but what those passes were given and received as a bribe? Will the farmers and shippers of Jackson County, who have been ground down with high freights elect such a man to represent them for another term? Would you like to have conductors point to Tom, Dick and Harry who may perchance be armed with these passes, say there is a member of the Legislature from Jackson County? Farmers and others think of this until election day.
