Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa, October 24, 1889

Mary, the wife of Timothy Kelley, of Fairfield Township, was before the County Commissioners of Insanity on Tuesday and adjudged insane and ordered taken to the hospital at Independence. She is a woman past fifty years of age and has a broken down appearance. She has several children, one of whom, a grown daughter, together with the father, bore testimony as to the demented state of mind of Mrs. Kelley.

Maquoketa the scene of another tragedy Tuesday.

A report reached this office that Maquoketa had her, usual, semi-occasional tragedy, Tuesday afternoon. That one, Timothy Kelley was feloniously struck over the head with a rolling pin in the hands of his spouse and instantly killed.
We are told that the said spouse was formerly Miss Mary Miller and that prior to her marriage lived near Preston. She has six children to console her in her troubles.
