Green Island Lad Wounded

On Saturday’s casualty list appeared the name of Edward Krabbenhoft, of near Green Island, among those wounded. The same day we were informed by Edward’s father, L. H. Krabbenhoft, that the soldier had been wounded October 6, 1918, when a ten inch shell exploded near the ration wagon he was driving. The lead team was blown to bits and the rear pair of horses were also instantly killed and terribly mangled. Edward was sitting on the driver’s seat of his wagon and received a bad flesh wound in his right foot and has since been confined in the Base Hospital No. 44, but has practically recovered from his wound. It was certainly a narrow escape and an experience which Mr. Krabbenhoft will never forget. –Sabula Gazette
