The Contested Election Case

Mr. Stephens Will Be Given the Seat in the House for Jackson County

The election contest between A. W. Richardson, Democrat and W. M. Stephens, Republican, for the office of State Representative from this county, was finally decided in favor of Stephens by a majority of twenty-six votes. The ballots cast last fall in this county were all ordered to Des Moines, where the committee proceeded to canvass the votes.

Mr. Richardson concedes the election of Mr. Stephens and has vacated his seat. A canvass by the Board of Supervisors showed Richardson with a plurality of twenty-seven votes.
