The Jackson Journal Discontinues Publication

We understand that the last issue of the Jackson Journal, the only newspaper printed in Jackson County in the German language, will appear this week. The Clinton Anzieger has taken over the subscription list and the equipment has been disposed of by Editor Herter, who will, we are told, move to Davenport. The Journal has been conducted by Mr. Herter for a good many years, and was founded in 1885 by W. C. Swigart & Sons.

No accusation of disloyalty is attached to any of Herter’s writings and we have failed to detect an unpatriotic phrase in any of his local columns, but it’s the story that is being told throughout the country that the German publications are doomed and the passing of the Journal is only one out of many evidences of the truth of the prediction.
