Jackson Press, Bellevue, Jackson County, Iowa, March 5, 1853.

Hook and Ladder Company

At a public meeting of the citizens of the town of Bellevue, held at the Court House on the 28th inst., in accordance with a notice published in the Jackson Press, J. N. Ball, Esq., was called to the Chair and T. H. Rice appointed Secretary.

The object of the meeting as stated by the Chairman, was for the purpose of taking preparatory steps for the formation of a Hook and Ladder Company.

On motion of W. A. Maginnis,
A committee of five was appointed to draft a Constitution and By-Laws for the government of said company, to report at a future meeting.
After a spirited address by the mover in support of his motion, it was carried, and the meeting appointed the following named gentlemen said committee, viz: W. A. Maginnis, Dr. L. Miller, Col. Warren, Col. Johnson, Judge Spurr.
On motion of Col. Warren,
The Chairman was added to the committee.
On motion of J. Kelso, Esq.,
The committee was instructed to report on next Monday evening, and that the proceedings of the meeting be published in the Jackson Press.
Whereupon the meeting adjourned to meet again on Monday evening, the 7th proximo, at 6 ˝ o’clock.
