Jackson Sentinel, Maquoketa, Iowa, October 18, 1888,

Grand Jury Meets

The grand jury was drawn as follows:
J. S. Teeters, Charles Palmer, Harris Tubbs, E. E. Shirk, John Nemmers, L. Wagoner, G. W. Sanborn, H.M. Miles, Clerk.

About all the business they had to deal with was the three prisoners in the county jail. Bowling, the young man sent from Maquoketa for assault with intent to commit great bodily injury to T. E. Elwood, was discharged.

Clara Joyce, the mistress of the ill-famed island house near Sabula, was also discharged, but John Brown, the skiffman who was arrested with the woman, was indicted for aiding Oakley, the owner of the house and a prisoner, to escape. The grand jury having nothing further to do adjourned Saturday afternoon.
