“Ten Cent Jimmy”
It is astonishing what low acts men will stoop to in order to accomplish their ends. From the Maquoketa Excelsior we learn that the Sentinel men (Dem.) recently paid money, placed in their hands for electioneering purposes, to get up a burning of “Ten Cent Jimmy” in effigy, in order to manufacture political sympathy for the nominee of the pro-slavery party. The affair was got up secretly, so as to make believe Republicans had done it.
(Note: “Ten Cent Jimmy” was President James Buchanan’s nickname.)
