Maquoketa Sentinel, July 10, 1856.

While some young men were bathing in Mill Creek one day last week, a young man by the name of Jacob Griffin, recently from Ohio, ventured too far, and unobserved by his companions was drowned.

Boys cannot be too cautious in venturing beyond their depth when they cannot swim. Mr. Griffin was about 17 years old and much esteemed.
